im doing a diy air intake, i just got all the parts to do the job and have one question whats the sensor inside the air box for? do i need it? my truck is a 03 7.3L

If it's the long white skinny tube looking thing, I believe that's the sensor that measures air temp. You need it, but you can just zip tie it out of the way. Some people put it in a ziplock bag to keep it clean.

ok thanks, what about th air restriction sensor should i put that back in the intake tube, i dont want to have any dummy lights on

Some folks have drilled and put that back into the intake tube...I'd just leave it zip-tied with the other sensor. Matter of preference. If you do put it back in the intake, you have some sort of indicator to replace the filter (but it's probably WAY past due by the time the light shows up...)

bressler said it.....its the Ambient Air Temp sensor, and just is there to read the temp of the air that is entering the intake tract. i secured mine on the fender right next to the filter.

i think drilling and reinstalling the restriction sensor woudnt be a bad idea, but bressler is right, the light will go on long after its too restricted and should be changed.
