My older daughter has been living with a guy for about 3 years now. As a result of that relationship, we have been blessed with the sweetest little grandson anybody could ask for.

The boyfriend, however, has seemed to be quite a bum. He seems like he is more intent on minimally paying self employment schemes vs holding down a regular job. In the last year and a half, he has had more jobs than I have had in my entire life. They have had one of his kids, a 15 year old girl, from a previous marriage living with them. But considering his inconsistant earnings, I think my daughter has been supporting her more than he has. We have tolerated him up till now, but that all changed this past weekend.

On Sunday apparently he got into an arguement with his 15 year old where he ended up striking her. My daughter, who has been pretty much a surogate mother, attempted to intervene. At that point, he grabbed my daugther by the throat, choking her and put her up against the wall. She kneed him in the "you know whats". He grabbed a bunch of clothes and left in their motor home.

Our daughter called us, in tears, asking what to do. I told her to call the cops, which she was reluctant to do. But I told her if she didn't call, I was going to do it. The cops came over and ended up putting out a warrant for him. It seems domestic violence in Wisconsin is an automatic jail arrest. They found him Monday sleeping in the camper in a parking lot about 30 minutes away, placing him under arrest.

Since then we have found out that he has been without a driver's license for quite a while, he lost it due to a DUI. We also found out he has a warrant in MI for non-payment of child support to his ex for the same child that was living with them. :dunno

As a result of all of this, my daughter will have to sell her house. She was having trouble trying to make payments as it was with his inconsistant income. Now that's gone, there's no way she can pay all the bills. We just tapped into our home equity for a couple of house payments for her.

I guess I'm in a quandary as to what to do. Do I shoot him for attacking my little girl? Do I have a talk with him, and then make sure he falls down a flight of stairs, several times? Do I break his knee caps with a baseball bat? I don't feel like there is anything the legal system will be able or willing to do that will be sufficiant punishment for threatening my daughter's well being.

So like the thread title says, what would you do?

Tough situation Kent, first and foremost is your daughter/grand daughters safety. I know how you feel in wanting to be the aggressor here, Ive walked the path my friend. My best advice is get your daughter and her child safe, be that with you or in someplace where things can cool down a bit and let the law deal with the dead beat. Wash your hands of it, chalk it up to gained experience for both you and your daughter and move on. To try to make things right between you and him on a personal level will be bad news. It sucks, but the world is full of people who you think are one thing and you place trust in them only to find out at a later date that person is not who you thought they were and they have hosed you or hurt you.

Walk away my friend, walk away.

my suggestion would be... don't do anything that will put you at his level... even though that is your girl and he hurt her (don't know what i would do in your position i can only imagine)..... but i would find a way for her to get out of that situation... get your grandson and your daughter into a position to be happy... it seems like this guy is a "bum" and isn't going anywhere... that is nothing for your daugter to deal with and your grandson to see (i hope he missed the "argument").... oh and lots and lots of prayer... good luck with everything!

My daughter just called to talk during her lunch break at work.

Apparently, the ex-boyfriend is by-law prevented from seeing her or our grandson for 72 hours. After that, he can't come over without making an "apointment" first with my daughter. The cop said if she wants, he'll be there when the ex comes over to get his stuff. She also is having all the locks changed too. All in all, she says she isn't very worried about anymore trouble from him.

But it still doesn't lessen my desire to "express my feelings" upon his face.

Good advice there TG.. X2. Been there, Done That, two times over with our oldest Daughter.

Stay vigilant, Be supportive but Stay Out Of It.

The "System" is slow, frustrating and cumbersome.. But it Works... i.e.; Law enforcement, CPS and all the Domestic Violence advocacy groups. They have the Clout to handle ALL the issues, believe me.

Let them do there thing.... for her. Not You & Mrs. TG

Stand WAY clear, but tuned in.

because if he gets a "regular" job, he'll get garnisheed for his child support and court costs... I see it all the time in this town... baggy-pants thuggie wannabees on welfare, staying one step ahead of the legal system.. gettin' back with the girlfriend just long enough to bust one off and get her pregnant again... then back to stayin' wif cuzin Willie... no phone, no address..
