If my wife buys me a water temp gauge for Christmas, what max temp should she get, 240 or 280?

Thanks!

Go with 280 degrees, as the engine can and will run into the 230's when hot. You will want a little extra guage when it does.

Definitely get a 280*F because IIRC it's at 246*F when problems begin.
What brand? Mechanical or electrical?

It isnt the gauges, it is there customer service. Or, more precisely, their lack of it. I like my gauges just fine. I just wont tolerate rude customer service.
