ford putting the 6.0 in the f550s work trucks! i have a 6.0, i love it! its fast very fast. but it doesnt have the pulling power as the 7.3 does. my old man owns a contracting buisness and we have a 7.3 and the new 6.0 for the 550. the 6.0 is a horrible motor for a stick, u cant haul heavy loads, nor u can towl like the 7.3. ford angers me. can anyone explain to me why ford would be so stupid cancelling the 7.3?

For starters, the EPA. The 7.3 would not meet the new regulations for clean air. In addition to also having to keep up with GM and Dodge - Ford does not make the 6.0 - International does . . . just like they made the 7.3, 6.9, etc - and are making the 6.4

Now - having owned both a 7.3 and 6.0 - I can say that a stock 6.0 will out run, out pull, out work circles aournd a stock 7.3 all day long. Having said that leads me to say of course that if your fathers 550 6.0 is not doing the same to a 7.3 550 - there's a problem and that truck needs to be looked over.

I too, have owned both. My 7.3 was an IDI so it was not even in the same ball park as the 7.3 PS. My 6.0 was hauled some pretty good loads and I was amazed at how well it pulled out of the hole. Yes I have an automatic. YOu may have something wrong with your 550.

I would agree, you must have a problem. My 6.0 without a doubt will out work the 7.3 all day long. As far as pulling power, look at my avatar, that's 38,000 gross. :sweet
If you have an 03/ early 04 build, get the latest reflash 06E17, makes a huge difference. :sweet

IH uses the VT365 in all different sorts of medium duty appications. The engine can do it. The interface between IH and Ford is where the problem lies.

Engine is in a different state of tune in larger trucks. Horsepower is down and torque way up. VT 365 specs for a straight truck, etc. are around 200 H.P. but torque is around 650 ft.lbs. Don't quote me on this...I'd have to find the manual. But the numbers are totally different from what we see in our pick-ups.

i agree
there is a problem if the 550 is having trouble hauling, it has lower rear gears and stouter frames, but it isnt going to run as fast as a f350
as for it being detuned in a f550, nope.
the 650 and 750 with the 6.0 is detuned considerably, if you go with a 650 or 750 go CAT and as big as you can afford. 6 speed allis and your golden
