Well, another 50+ Fog related pile-up

on SR-99 near Kingsburg, Ca. Folks just won't Slow Down in the Fog. CHP said the visibility was 30 feet or Less.

Traffic was REAL heavy due to the Ag Expo. in Tulare, Ca Both North & South bound lanes are closed. Rescue & Clean up in progress.....

I hated to drive in the fog when I lived out there.
Still don't like driving in it here.

i pull over wen it gets ugly like that. aint nothing worse than running up on someone.

wonder if they were driving fast like here and talking on the phone.

I saw on TV once about a study that was done as to why people drive faster when its foggy.

They had several people drive in a simulator and when fog was introduced into the picture, everyone would speed up.

They came to find out that our brains tell us that we are moving to slow when its foggy, based on the signal that our eyes are sending back to the brain.

I must admit that is what I feel when I have driven in the fog. I feel like I'm going to slow, so I speed up unaware of how fast I was already going.

I hear ya WD. The FOG, and having to drive in it, is on my list of "Things I Don't Miss" in retirement.

With this one.. 5 pin-ins, 20+ injured, no deaths (yet). They're get'n it cleared up now.

There's something about that stretch of 99.. IF It's Foggy, it WILL be killer Fog in that 15 mile stretch of Highway. 100 car pile up last year.. killed 2.

For you Right Coaster's ? 99 is a MAJOR north/south highway in Caly. Has as much, if not more traffic, as I-5.

Local News is at the scene.. Interviewed a lady, she said:

It was Foggy, I slowed down.. and as I was talking to my Mom...... Cars and trucks started to go Everywhere.... I steered around them... luckily I made it thru.. Yad, Yada, Yada.....

Caly Law sez you can't talk on the Cell while driving, but with as many people that do it... It's UNInforceable. IMO

Joe which was it Tule fog or coastal fog? I really hate Tule fog on I-5 and 99 in the Central Valley in winter. Cold and gray. I'm used to coastal fog which my PIAA fog lamps really help out in.

Tule Fog.. At It's Worst.

Talked to the UPS guy (UPS center is in Goshen), they held the trucks back this AM, for about 30 mins.. cuz they couldn't see to get out of the loading area/yard

If that's an indicator of how bad it was.

sometimes its BETTER to keep moving...or get OFF the highway
completely...the problem w/ visiblity issues is that folks drive
by the tail lights in front of 'em...and theyll lead or follow you right
off the road, if they dont rear end you while you try to sit SAFELY
on the side of the road !

They also get what is called tule fog. I have had good visibility out the cab windshield and not been able to see the road.

Glad I don't live around there anymore as are some of my old neighbors I bet.
