I started my truck this morning and it fired up fine. I left the house and got to the stop sign around the corner and all of a sudden the truck will not accelerate but will only idle in gear. The gas pedal feels very loose and it also makes the service engine light come on everyt ime you press it. What in the world is going on? What is the fix for it if you guys may know whats happening.

Hmmm sure sounds like the Throttle Position Sensor to me,I had that happen once back in 2003,I had the TPS pedal assembly replaced under recall for the Excursion. Not sure how much they run but couldn't be more than $100 I'm guessing.

What is the process for changing this.....I forgot to mention that I am not a genius when it comes to working on my truck but I do somehow manage to get by. Is this something i can get at my local FOrd dealership?

Unbolt the go peddle, unplug the wire harness.........replace with new go peddle and your good to go.

Probably 20 minute job including the learning curve.

so what parts do I need? Do I just ask for the assembly? IF its only a 20 min deal that is a huge relief. Would the dealer have it or can I get it today at AutoZone Advance Auto?

You can call Autozone but I suspect it is going to be a dealer only item if you want to pick it up locally.

just spoke to ford dealer and price is $224. Sound right?
My badd! TPS is for the Mustang (5.0):sorry

You'll need the accelerator pedal assembly. Bob & Sheryl at Dieselsite stocks it for around $120 :notworthy

Call and ask questions for they're very helpful people!

I thought that they recently came out with just the sensor. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought that's what I heard.
