Had the muffler deleted on my 2000 F-250 now at cruising speeds holding the throttle in 1 spot for about 10 to 15 seconds the exhaust will start to make a really loud blowing sound, is this normal? can i buy and aftermarket muffler to fix this? this is a non catalyst truck.
Thanks.

Only when cold? I bet it's the exhaust back pressure valve.

thanks for the welcome.. =) yeah its bone stock except for the deleted muffler, it does it at any time. Ive only had the truck about 3 weeks and the warmest it has been outside it about 50 degrees. What is the exhaust back pressure valve? does this mean its bad? The truck also idles up to about 1000rpm when i let it idle for a while and it makes that loud blowing noise until i get in and push the brake pedal.
thanks again.. =)

The EBPV is a butterfly valve that increases exhaust backpressure to help your truck warm up when its cold. The noise you're hearing is perfectly normal.

Is there anyway to reduce the sound it makes? would a straight through aftermarket muffler work? My girlfriend does not like the noise it makes.. =( but i dont want to reuse the factory muffler.

I don't think a new muffler would decrease the sound, you can either tell your girlfriend to plug her ears until it gets a bit warmer out and the ebpv won't close or you can disconnect the valve by unhooking the the 2-wire electrical connection at the base of your turbo. Most people just ignore it...
Good Luck!
