Im lookin for a weed eater/string trimmer...

I interested in hearing opinions & experiances...im considering
the STIHL's (cause i hope itll lst) either the FS90/FS90R (R is w/out
the bike handle).

Stihl is doing some "new" motor thing...since 2cycles are
basically out-lawed, thanks to the EPA...its 4cycle w/ valves
on the top end but it still uses fuel mix (oil & gas for lubrication)...
like 2cycle for the bottom end....

im sick of buying these things every 3-5yrs...I used to like
our ryobi (4 cycle)...i hate having to have a 2nd fuel container
just to mix gas for a single item (weed-eater)

the stihl's are suposed to be better than "GOOD"...but im wondering
about this engine theyre using...

last ryobi i had locked up...the click shaft stuff was nice BUT they
never really did as good a job as a dedicated tool (which i hate having
a million yard tools one for each task).

the blower didnt blow that great...the edger 'bout killed my back

i broke down and bought a full blown 5hp briggs edger...its works & doesnt
force me to bend over when i use it.

I went the electric route with a Black and Decker Edge Hog or some such. It is rechargeable and hangs on the charger on the wall. I have had it 7 years now. The book says it will cut 1 full acre on a full charge. I need to get a new battery soon but it is still enough to do my yard. The cordless rechargeable option is what sold me. It has a twist head to weedeat/edge.

After 7-10 years, can't remember, of Ryobi, I just bought an Echo Edger, and an Echo line trimmer, two seperate units. They were about $480 out the door I think. I've only had them since the start of this season but I very pleased so far.

i would stay away from electric. you'll just end up cutting it with the trimmer. and cordless just never have enough power. although it just depends on how agressive your work is and how much you will be using it

My son got me a Sears for Father's Day. I really haven't had a chance to use it much. It has the strips of line that you feed through the head rather than the line that has to be wound on the spool He's got one similar to it and really likes it. This one replaced the 12 year old Stihl.
