I was told that it is on the firewall behind the radio. Thats for my 2002. Guys said that there is about an hour of labor to get the dash apart.
I need to replace mine but just havent had time. I will just have to live with on again off again radio and windows.
Daveben, the vsm is basically the upgraded version of the gem module. Except Ford decided to hide it from us.

I looked behind the radio I still can`t see! the mitchell manual says c-pillar but I still can`t find the bastard!!!
