I have a 2001 powerstroke that has a terrible shimmy, vibration from take off to around 20 mph. This thing will shake the gauges out of the dash if you acellarate at a moderate level from 0-20 mph, after that no problems. What might be the problem? The truck just got a new trans in it today along with a new carrier bearing. This vibration was present before the tranny and carrier bearing upgrade. What could possibly bringing me the vibration?

Has the alignment been checked recently? Balance and rotate tires? This is a possibility.

Edit: Let us knwo more about your truck...auto vs manual, 4x4 vs 4x2, etc...

alignment

Yes, I just installed a pro comp 4' lift kit and pro comp 35's. The truck is a 2001 superduty crew cab diesel. I also installed a suncoast trans. The problem was there b4 I installed any of the above. It is really weird. When you are at a dead stop and mash on it the truck really shakes. If you stand on it while rolling 20mph and up there is no trouble. I am wondering if my rear end or if something else in the drive train could be giving me this problem. Even when moderately accellerating from 0 to 20 mph the truck really shakes, after 20 no troubles?

That would be cool. I will check it out. Thanks. What do you need to do to make a 7.3 run like a scalded dog?

How long has this been happening?

Just adding some more thoughts;
Make sure everything (fastener wise) is tight underneath, suspension components mainly.

Before you installed the lift and the bigger tires, it was still there.. that's interesting, I was definently going to say to have the same shop or someone else reputable recheck your tires.. is there a way that both sets before and after were unbalanced?

Your obviously getting vibes from something, I'd go along with checking your allignment too.

U-joints or driveline angle (not supposed to exceed 5*) would be my guess..

halfs of the driveshaft out of phase maybe...

If the driveshaft is out of phase by 180°, that is out by 1/2 turn, it will vibrate. The way to check this it to remove the drive shalf and turn the drive shaft 180° on the rear end yoke, reinstall it, and drive it. This usually cures this vibration.
