Vacuum gauge for fuel restriction?

I need to install a vacuum gauge to measure fuel restriction in my two aftermarket fuel filters even though the dash FUEL FILTER light and vacuum sensor on the FPR both work. I'd like the gauge on the dash in a pod but will mount it under the truck if absolutely necessary. Is a glycerin filled gauge mandatory? Should I install a tee in the fuel line under driver's door and mount the sender there? Should I do away with the vacuum sensor on the FPR and tap off of this port? Is it safe to use plastic tubing or is braided SS needed? The price difference is huge. I've heard that mounting a fuel pressure gauge inside the cab is potentially an oily mess, but is there this concern with a vacuum gauge?

The concern is the tubing for the fuel going into the cab. If it leaks you have fuel all over your interior. If you mount the sender outside and run the wires inside to the guage, you will be just fine.

Mine is under the truck. I'm thinking of moving it into the cab with teflon tubing like the one used for a boost gauge. Reason I want teflon is to withstand the B99.

With it under vacuum and being that high above the point where you tied into the system I don't think there would be a problem with a mess in the cab if something failed.

Well on a vacuum gauges you wouldn't have to worry about possible fuel in the cab like a pressure application.

If you know what Hg point you want to change the filter at you could put one of these on it..............connect it to a pilot light in the cab and you good to go.

We use them sometimes on hydraulic filters in the mobile equipment we build at work.

I don't know at what Hg point my dash dummy FUEL FILTER light comes on. :dunno

This is analogous to the dash dummy coolant gauge which IMO is totally...
USELESS

I'm thinking that a 0-30 Hg gauge will do. Do I need a glycerin liquid filled gauge?

My Racor gauge has yellow zone from 6-8"Hg....higher than 8 is red. Racor tech told me to try and not exceed 8. Entrained air could be released once you get that high. Also my gauge isn't liquid filled.

On another note...I had to fill with dirty #2 a couple days ago since my bio supplier is out. My gauge went from 5" to 3" of restriction in 15 miles. It's crazy how viscosity can play havoc with restriction. Then again I'm crazy enough to run a 2 micron pre-pump.

The Racor 1606B is way too expensive at between $70-$85

Instead I got a Wika stainless steel glycerine filled gauge for $37.89.

I will install it under my truck. It's so much easier.

Peter, I really thought you'd install your new filter housing right after you had your tank cleaned. :dunno

I intended to but did not have any way to get/build a bracket. That has been my holdup the whole time.
