Howdy all,
I am going to wait for a little bit after posting this to see any replies and then I am off to the International Dealer to get a UVC harness and "injector harness" for the passenger side ot the engine. This is the second harnes in as many as many years to short out. My question is: Is there an underlying problem that is causing this or is this just one of those things that happens?
Having had this happen before and reading an unknown number of posts with this problem was a great help with diagnosing this problem quickly. When the truck started acting up I thought "uh-uh I bet I know what is going on here". The good news is I was about a block away from the house when it went out on me. I thank God for that (whew, no waiting for the AAA towing service).

An Update: New UVC gasket (P/N 1818350C2) $47.68 and Harness
(P/N 1815923C92) $33.73. The International parts man said that it is just one of the design flaws with our trucks, and that there probably isn't anything else wrong with the truck that is causing the harness to go bad. Is the 2 year window that I have about average or has anyone else had one go out more frequently or never at all? Both of mine have been on the passenger side. I am now considering buying a spare of both parts listed above, in addition to the CPS that I already carry. Anyone else carrying these as spares?
One last thing, for those of y'all here in the Dallas / Ft. Worth area the Southwest International Trucks, Inc. 3722 Irving Blvd. Dallas, Tx. 75247 Metro# 972-445-5312 Parts Dept is open until 10:00p.m. So if you are in a pinch this is a place you might try.

I also carry a spare VC gasket, UVC harnesses, external connector shells and pins in mine. I even have just a section of an old VC gasket with a good connector for a total last resort fix. There have been some folks that have modified their external harness and swapped in the 99+ single connector gasket and UVC harnesses which use larger gauge conductors (the small conductors in ours are probably a major cause of the problems). Cheers!

just replaced mine last night

well clem I just replaced both of my driverside harness assemblies and valve cover gasket last night. found dead glow plug at both holes that had burnt part of harness. think the draw on that little bitty connector from a sick glow plug is the problem usually!
