I own a 01 4x4 diesel and put a 8.5 camper (cab over) on it during the summer and my fuel mileage is really terrible goes from 17 or so down to 11 or 12 mpg. Does anyone have any ideas on how I could increase my mpg?

Well the only advice I have is open up the intake and exhaust. The stock exhaust is VERY restrictive, get the air in and out with the least amount of restriction as possible.

With the camper you are having to cut a bigger hole in the air. Not very good for fuel mileage.:sorry

well, not much... you're adding, what, about 3500 pounds?

On top of that, you're about as aerodynamic as a shoebox, and I bet you're not changing driving habits much...

so you could either buy a second truck to beat around in, or do the best you can with what you've got...

like Antonio said... open up the intake and exhaust. You're not going to get it back to your 17, and it might only net you .5/mpg, but when you take the camper back off, you'll make up enough to have it be worthwhile...

aside from intake, you might consider getting jody's 80HP econo chip, and install a regulated fuel system. individually, both mods get you a couple of mpg on a regular truck, but considering your aerodynamics, who knows.

doing both does not necessarily aggregate to get you 100% of each mileage gain.
