I just have to laugh as hubby comes in and says "Ok, get on that forum with those smart diesel guys and find out how I do this".

So he has the turbo off, and since there is a previous exhuast brake on there, we are trying to decide whether to spend the $150 and fix the leak or just gut it as suggested and remove the exhaust brake.

I never use the exhaust brake so it really is no big deal to me...

So he has now decided to just gut the thing and be done with it, but he needs to know exactly how to get the "waste gate" out of there.

Anyone out there who has done this that could give us some advice?

Remove the screws that hold to plate on the rod. Then remove the rod. If he can weld, he can weld the holes shut. If not, he can put a small freeze plug in there. Then, he needs to cut the rod off close to the accuater(sp) and push it back inside. Then he can tap the hole and install a pipe plug.

This will put an end to the leak and open up the exhaust a little more!
