Hey bio peeps, I ran a few tanks of B-100 (Soy based) & noticed this; truck ran quieter, smelled better, power seemed the same & mileage appears to have suffered. Now I'm not a calculate mileage on every tank person. I top it off as much as the foam will let me and run until the "lowfuel" light comes on. When I filled with the 100 there was no foaming so I was able to get the level high enough to see the fuel in the fill neck. I run 14K total with my work trailer daily and a normal tank I get 400-450 from the 34-36. All 3 tanks of 100 the "low fuel" light was coming on at 350 +/- 10.

Is this normal for 100 in the 6.0 - I like to support the farmers by burning their product, I like the lower emissions. but at only a 10 cent savings over non-bio, losing that much mileage & driving 18-20 miles to get the stuff. It's hard to justify.

That is about what I saw. I am not currently running bio because I have to go about 22 miles to find it. This will change in the future, but when?

Both the 7.3 and 6.0 lost mileage on B-100. Power was down too. Some guys around here claim better power and mileage gains. Its definately quieter but the smell is something to get used to.

Running B100 I lost up to 2mpg but like F100 said it's the exhaust smell that makes ya return each time;)

The mpg drop is attributed to the lower btu's per gallon of B100. 'Bout 7%. 130,000 vs 140,000 for #2

I had a bio fuel seller tell me the addition of animal fats to the vegtible oils raised the cetane rating.

Does this sound correct???

I doubt you are getting B100. B99.9 prolly so that the seller can get their 1$/gallon tax credit.

I saw a slight mileage drop, but no where near 2mpg. I saw about .5 mpg less over 450 gallons.

Tbar...as for the animal fat and cetane boosting....I went and saw my producer a week ago and saw some lab results. The soy based fuel that they played with adding animal fat to had LOWER cetane than plain virgin soy stock.
