I have had no trouble with my truck in the past and recently got a pretty large trailer to pull. Since then I noticed a long trail of transmission fluid coming from a cooler line.

I first loosened it, then tried to snug it down and apparently made the leak alot worse, its now gushing out.

Anyone have any idea where I can pick up another line on a sunday, I need to use the truck in a few hours? I have a flaring tool to put a new flair in the end of the line but I believe I dont have enough to redo it.

Also how much tranny fluid is in these things? is there any way to stop the flow (plug it up?)?

I usually takes me about 12 quarts when I change the fluid.

Where is the leak coming from? At the trans at the cooler line fittings? A possible temp fix might be to just put a piece of trans cooler hose and some hose clamps in place of the hard line until you can make a more permanent fix.

The line snapped in the coupler at the trans on the passenger side rear. Im having trouble finding anything similar to what is on there which seems to be aluminum tubing 1/2 od. The flair in the coupler gave out and doesnt leave me enough to redo it before the bend toward the front.

Im at the point now where I have some fittings from homey depot and trying to piece it out.

Anyone have any experience with copper tubing? will it take the pressure? Im sure copper is stronger than the aluminum thats on there now. I can get copper pretty easily in 1/2 od.

Since its aluminum tubing I dont think I will have any luck piecing it with rubber hose then trying to clamp on it, I think it will crush.

12 quarts? I read somewhere it was 6.5 quarts.

If you only change the fluid in the pan, maybe you'll only get 6.5 qts.

If you do a more complete fluid change and idle the engine with the tranny cooler line dumping into a bucket until it starts pumping air, you'll get more of a complete change. It's a procedure I read about several years ago that was recomended by a Ford engineer.

I started to get worried because I changed mine a couple of weeks ago....the day I got it and I only put 6.5 quarts in. I checked it today and what is that saying "The dipstick don't lie". So I'm good no problems.:D
