A question I have for you all...

I just changed the fluid in my transfer case last night (just decided to do it cause it has never been done before) and thought the sole purpose of it was to provide power the the front wheels when in 4WD. It almost looks like the driveshaft goes through it to go and put power through the back wheels.

My question is, is the transfer case only used when the truck is in 4WD or is the fluid always sloshing around being used?

Your transfer case runs power to the rear wheels all of the time, and to the front wheels, when selected. That is why the fluid seems dirty than you assumed.

yup, it's basically like running 2 transmissions inline. the first is your normal trans, the next is the Tcase which selects power output option.
