Well, I just got my truck out of the shop. Aamco. Cost me just under $2300 with tax. Changed torque convertor, new solenoid kit, and all the upgrades for the tranny. They will service the tranny every 20,000 miles for free.

Just wondering if I got screwed or got a good deal??

Thanks for your input!

Don't sound all that bad to me if it will just hold up to the way you drive your truck. Good luck.

You didnt get screwed for a "run of the mill" rebuild, thats how much it costs to R&R an E4OD. Dont expect it to hold up to any engine modifications though.

What SHOULD have been done for it to hold up to mods? And how much would that have costed me? He said he put a shift kit and the sonnax valves and tricumulator springs. And a better torque convertor. I don't know much about trannys OR diesels! (Or any engine for that matter, LOL) But, it's nice to know I got an average price, at least!

He said he is the only one around that will service it every 20000 miles for the life of the truck! Says he will change the filter and fluid every 20000 miles! No charge! Free filter and all, the way he explained it!

KC,

Our trannys were/are not designed to handle the higher horsepower that come with modding. Your standard rebuild will probably crater, if you exceed the 400hp range. Since your guy upgraded the TC and added the sonnax, you will probably be fine if you don't start adding upgraded injectors.:burnit
That being said a "heavy-duty" rebuild, designed to handle high horse power (like a BTS or Richter rebuild) is going to run you in the neighborhood of $4k. It's all a matter of what you want/plan to do in the future.:2c

Thanks! The mods I was thinking of, but have been for the last year so it probably wont happen any time soon, is the down pipe and air intake. I was also thinking of maybe getting a chip, but that would be more for the high idle and economy towing. I would be looking more to improve fuel mileage than power. But a little power would be nice too!

With that ttranny you should be fine with the exhaust and intake. Even a chip probably won't hurt it too bad. I put the sonnex valve and trycumulater springs in mine years ago. I think they are a very good mod for the stock tranny. I've pulled and hauled more then probably 90-95% of the guys on this board and had no trouble. That being said my tranny doesn't care for the nice little injectors I put in. I still haven't made Swamps wall of fame, but much longer and I might make the longest lasting tranny with injectors.:D
