Recently I have experienced a delay going in to reverse on my 01 F250 4x4 powerstroke. It seems to go into reverse a little slow essp[ecialy when on an incline acting like a stick when you lett out the clutch lugging the engine just a bit. I checked the fluid level and it was ok, smelt fine and was not brown. I replaced the filter and added new fluid but problem still there, It also does not seem to shift as hard as it used to. I have heard that the bully dog shift kits will cure this problem, Is there any truth to this. Whay should I look at does anyone have an idea for me. I dont know a whole lot about diesels this is my first one. I also heard the stock t converter is the weakest link in this type of tranny.

  • How many miles on the tranny?
  • Have you owned it since new?
  • If not, do you know what kind of care it recieved from the previous owner?
  • You said that you replaced the filter and added fluid?
  • Does this tranny have an external filter that you changed and just topped off the fluid level or?

If it were me I would drop the pan, inspect for shavings or chunks of metal in pan, if all OK, change internal filter and flush the tranny, this is out on a limb but you might even dump several cans of Sea Foam in the pan, drive it and get it to operating temps and let it cleanse the valve bodies, and again dump fluid, flush system and change filter and fill with fresh fluid.

Your problem sounds like sticking valve bodies. And yes, the TC is the weakest link in the stock transmission.
