Will definitely help extend the life of the transmission and for $50-100 is good insurance:sweet

Yes, and the stacked plate LPD design (such as the tru-cool) is the way to go Scar.

Any gues on what size I need?
Tru-cool 4590 is rated for 28,000 lb gvw and the Tru-cool 4739 is rated for 40,000 gvw if my memory serves me correctly. I run the 4590 and have never seen my tranny over 220° while towing in 100° heat.

I picked up one at Napa and it was around $70. Twice I've had to idle the truck due to pretty high heat (220ish). The first time was snow plowing in 40 degrees, heat (MN!) the other time was moving a 10x16ft well built shed. Pulling trailers up to 17,500 lbs it's not gotten over 210.

An aftermarket tranny cooler is nice but a tranny gauge is actually better. Watching your tranny temp while towing or working the truck is the best way to add miles to your auto tranny. I put the cooler and triple guages on the truck the same day, so don't know how much the cooler has helped the tranny. All I know is I'm running a 127,000 mile $2,000 rebuilt Ford tranny and it's still pretty strong!
