ok my 95 PSD has the tow package from the factory in it.i have to repair lights on a customers trailer so i figured id use my truck to plug the trailer into so he can use his truck for his work.

since this is the first time ive used the trailer plugs(had 4 plugs in all)i found i had a couple broken wires.so in order to figure out where they went and what they did i look at the flapper on the plug wich has a diagram on it :sweet .it has a wire in it that is hooked up for trailer brakes.but it doesnt do anything :dunno where does it go and how does it work?

in the next few months(hopefully real soon)i will be dragging a 3 car trailer back and forth to auctions.im gonna need the trailer brakes to be working.am i missing something?do i need a seperate brake controller or something for the trailer brakes?

thanx for the link but i already got the plug wired just had a couple broken wires that had to be repaired.what i need to know is whee in the truck does the blue wire for the trailer brakes go and what do i need for it to work?

but i do need to rewire the 6 pin lug inside the bed so that link was usefull.when i got the truck it had the normal 7 pin in the bumper,6 pin in the bed and it had a 4 pin flat and a 5 pin flat behind the bumper.

previous owner must have towed many different types of trailers with it wich would explain the high miles and good condition.plus it has a huge chunk of C channel welded to the frame above the rear axle under the bed with a big hole in the middle of it for a goose neck most likely.

If you plan on keeping the truck and pulling goosenecks or fifth wheels, I would put the 7way in the bed too, when I worked at the Deere dealership we sold trailers, anything over 4 wheeler trailer was going to 7 way as an industry standard.

Rich, am I understanding you right, there's no controller in the cab??

If not, that's what you need to make 'em work, lot's of folks like the Prodigy, I had the version before the prodigy in my '95 and it worked well.

If you have a factory installation, you should have the factory wiring for your brake controller. Mine is located below the ash tray by the carpet. The colors of the wiring does not match the wire colors of the controlled so if the wires are not marked, be carefull when hooking up the controller. I have the wiring diag. for the '96 ford trucks, wire colors ect.. it might be the same. Some of my wires were marked to what they where to connect to, some had lost the tape.

There are also fuses and relays under the hood that for the controller and plugs.

Like KansasDiesel said there is a plug under the ash tray that has all the connections you need for a trailer brake controller. There should be the blue that goes to the rear of the truck, hot, ground and brake light. It would be best to get a factory harness such as this one but you can cut and splice if you want too..
