Hey Guys,
I'm the newbie here, enjoyed looking over different post. I purchased a 2007 SD, 6.0 with 25k miles. I have two questions. One, when you press in the tow switch on the gear shift lever at speeds over 50 or once the truck has shifted out, should the transmission down shift. When I push in the button the light comes on but I here no change in the shifting nor does the RPM change indicating a downshift. Second question is in regards to the performance mods done with the units like a superchip or edge. Have they been proven to use without damaging the engine. I'm not into hotrodding my pickup at the ripe age of 44, but I wouldn't mind some extra kick if I new it wouldn't damage my engine to use every now and then. Just curious. Let me know. Thanks.

The "tow" switch should change the shift points. Those of us with the "older" autos could lock out our overdrive. You should notice a difference in where the transmission shifts. (Take off from stop and watch the rpm that the shifts occur, turn on the tow and watch the rpm that the same shift occurs.) I don't have a 6.0 so I could'tn tell you about the individual programmers but any mild program will be safe as long as you keep everything in check (get a set of guages to monitor everything). I wouldn't worry about being 44 and hot rodding your truck, you are probably one of the younger ones around here. I'm one of the few that is still in his 20's (for another month)

with the torqueshift tranny, if your abve say 45 and the od has engaged, then pressing the tow/haul button wil do nothing but turn on the light on the dash
but when you slow down and apply braking the tranny will downshift into a lower gear and provide some assist in braking, you really feel it if you have a trailer in tow.

and when you mash the go pedal it will hold upshifting longer and run out the rpms a bit more depending on your level of throttle pedal mashing and your load.

its also very good in stop and go traffic as it will hold first longer and let you ramp up rpms to provide air flow to help with the a/c and removal of under hood hot air in the summer.
plus when you let off the throttle it slows you down faster and lets you apply less brakes which also reduces heat and wear.
in cold or freezing weather you shouldnt be running around with the tow haul engaged if your empty, it can cause some undesirable driving situations when slowing down.

also your rear gear ratio plays a huge role in the seat of the pants feel slowing down and
this also effects taking off , you can get some cool torque lift if you have a lower rear gear , its fun in traffic it looks like a big ol pete twisting and sometimes your go pedal foot will bounce some and cause more pronounced twisty :D:D
this can be even more fun if your driving through a cow field just fast enough to stay in 1st and your foot bounces off as you run over bumps and mole hills :D

you can also download the operating manual at
book of stuff

If you're just looking for a mild tune for a little extra KICK, then you should have no problems, there are lots of options out there, but SCT has the best stuff right now for the 6.0, and you can get full custom tunes, to match your truck (mods) and your desires. Many on here have an SCT and are very happy with them, I plan on upgrading to one soon.
