I'm getting more serious about new tires, nearing 65k on the original Firestone SteelTex 265/75R16 LRE M+S 10 ply. Use is mostly light road travel, occasional towing of an 8k or so trailer with bobcat and gear, and more wet than ice/snow.

There is a Firestone replacement (forget the name) for around $600 installed. Other contenders in my list are a Michelin AT or the Goodyear Silent Armor. I can get the Michelin for around $816 and the silent armors last I checked were pushing a kilo-buck. Some 1/2T buddies love Cooper and Big O for commuting.

Feedback? Thanks in advance.

Michelin's have been a great tire choice before I wanted some meat. I think they were LTX or MTX, but were more of a highway tire. I got 50,000 out of them, but my dad does more highway driving than I do he has about 40,000 on his and they still look like new.

We're rolling on Michelin LTX tires, great on wet roads for sure:sweet

Roger that, LTX's look great too. :sweet I'm thinking about the Michelin AT instead because if I get into the mud it won't matter anyhow (I sink) and they are a bit quieter and longer-lasting. I'm not familiar with the MTX, I'll check it out tonight!

Is that price competitive, $832 mounted and balanced with new valve stems. :thanks

I like the Silent Armors, myself, but then again, I have a somewhat biased opinion as I work for the manufacturer...

i have ran both Michelin`s and find the LTX`s to be a better tire. the AT`s do last a bit longer, but you get better traction with the LTX`s, especially on wet roads and in snow....just my :2c ....i am running the bridgestones dueller a/t revo`s now on my current truck and so far i like them...:thumbs

JLDickmon, I know you recommend the silent armors (from an earlier thread) and they look good! But availability and price have me steering away (here in Kentucky).

Thanks for Michelin feedback "atk".I'm actually looking at the Michelin AS not AT, I typed it wrong. It is strictly a road tire claiming excellent wet traction. Anyone use this? When I look at my driving, it is some off-road but 75% of hours is on curvy little roads and most of the rest on freeways. Some ice and some snow, but not a lot.

RSG you're getting me involved here:D The Michelin LTX M/S buries the LTX A/S when it comes to wet traction which is why we went with the M/S model. When we get rain here in Texas it comes down and we want the tread to grip the roadway and not ride on the water.
I just ran out to the truck and shot a few pics of the tires on our X,check out the siping on the tread and you'll see why we chose the LTX M/S:sweet
Every cent spent on these tires is more than worth it!

Seet Site!

Here's the Online survey from the Rack for All Season Light Truck tires which helped in our decision making.

CHP - thanks a lot for this info. I've been looking through the tirerack site and really enjoy it. The 50+ MILLION miles combined from reviewers using the Michelin LTX/MS sure carry some weight. And my local price seems reasonable too.

Thanks again to all for your help. :sweet

PS: attended a rodeo in Tucson earlier this week, and spent more time looking at tires on the rigs than anything else! Lots of dodges with the Mich LTX/AS. Maybe dodges don't do snow/ice.
