Hey,

I just purchased an 04 F250 and I didn't relize it but they came with winter tires. They are Avalance X-tremes. My question is should I get these off right away? I know on my civic my winter tires just melted in the slightest warm weather however these have held up well since ive got them with over 1500 KM on them (maybe much more since I don't know when they were put on). I would really rather not buy new tires for the next 3 months until it snows but if im going to lose all he tread between now and then I guess I will.

Thanks for the input.

Cheers
Jeff

Most truck tires are Mud and Snow of some sort. I have ONLY been running muds for 40 years on trucks and I see no reason to change.

it will depend on how much you will be driving from now till the snow falls and also how hard you push on the go pedal....:burnit.... that will for sure wear them out quick....usually winter tires do have a softer rubber compound, so it will wear more than a regular tire....if it was me, i would buy new tires now, that way you could get 2-3 winters out off your winter tires....my:2c

well ill chime in too...in my opinion theres no such thing as MUD *AND* SNOW,
its one or the other...and the NATURE of the type of tread needed supports
this...

ever make a snow ball...snow stick to snow...so in SNOW you want
a tire that will pack w/ snow...so the packed tire bites to the snow.

in MUD (as i understand it) you want a TREAD that slings the mud OUT
of the tread...so the tire can dig down to solid ground for traction.

the tires that are on my truck <ill update later> from the factory....
bridgestone AT's or something...theyre TERRIBLE in the mud !

fwiw, even in TEXAS im still rolling on my OE tires...63k+ im pretty
impressed w/ the wear & longevity...theyve been good in the rain and
they were good in the snow (one winter in virginia)...they are getting
low on tread now though and are precluding me from any high speed
driving in the rain.
