I dont get on here very often,
but I am considering buying a 2006 E450 (box van) W/ a 6.0, and I was wondering what you guys think of these?

It has 20 K miles, I know the current owner well enough to know its been treated right since he has owned it,(he bought it with 13K several years ago, and likes the truck).

I have a 96 7.3 for my personal rig and have learned how to treat it and I think its a fine rig. I remember when the 6.0 came out and seems to me there may have been some issues?:dunno

I dont particuarily need a deisel for my use, I have been told that 12-14 MPG is normal, not bad compared to my old gas rig at 6-8 MPG. And a 20 K rig for me is dang near new........?

Tell me what you guys think.....?

Thanks, John

I don't know, it being a van it may be easer because of the doghouse comes off on the inside. That's something he would need to check out.

I am not too concerned about access on the van, as it has a removeable doghouse.

Although I have refrained from upgrading to a superduty from my 96 for that very reason...........

I have heard that it is not uncommon to remove the cab to do some "routine type maintenace".........is this so?

Really just wondering what folks think of their 6.0's........Happy with their reliability?

The biggest issues that you are going to have are going to be the turbo and the EGR if that truck did a lot idleing. The other thing is that the vanes tend to stick in the turbo if the truck has not been run for extended amounts of time.

So this diesel has a EGR?
Turbo vanes are variable?
Is fuel treatment recomended?

Yes the turbo's on the 6.0 are a variable geometry turbo (VGT) and yes there is also an EGR system on these trucks which can be problematic. I would see if anyone can run an OASIS report on this van before you buy it so you know if any of this has been taken care of under warranty at some point.

If you buy this van, can you buy a warranty on it at the same time?
My truck just turned 5 years old and I bought it another 5 year warranty.
