Test for a bad clutch

Two weeks ago my clutch was "hoppin'" as I call it when I let it out. The clutch did not always smoothly transmit power to the wheels. Know that has stopped. Is there a clear test to tell if a clutch needs to be replaced, or is about to go?

Thanks,

Take the dust cover off the bottom of your tranny and check the rotational play between the flywheel and clutch. It should be less than 3/4".I took my clutch out it with a little over 1" off play.It really rattled the truck every time I turned it off.
