Alright. So I just bought a truck that has pods, with egt's boost pressure, and transmission temps. I see an idle egt of about 400 degrees or so. If I am running hard up to 1100 or 1200, but generally no more, and that's only when it's floored. My transmission guage on the dash always has the temp needle right about in the middle, does me little good. But my one in my pod I thought didn't work, but I just realized it never goes above 105 or so, which looks like it doesn't move. My question is where is my egt. temp probe located, and am I okay with those type of ranges, and whats the range of hot a transmission should run? Also what boost pressures should I be seeing? 2002 7.3 f250, automatic. 84k miles

they sound valid to me.

the egt prop is PROBABLY mounted
(via a drilled & tap'd hole) in the
drivers side exhaust manifold....
usually @ the back of the engine
near the firewall.

it could be mounted just about
anywhere but this is the most popular
most often used location.

sometimes its mounted in the down
pipe (post turbo) but this doesnt
give you good comparative data
and the temps are generally lower
post turbo.

ill let someone else answer your
tranny and boost questions since
i own a 6.0L

For boost I get up around 15 psi or so, but not more unless I flip whatever switch the guy who owned the truck before me put in. As for the tranny temp, I was incorrect. The lowest the gauge goes is 100 degrees, and my tranny wasn't running warmer than that until we went on a little trip through the mountains, then it went up to about 120 or so, so it does look to be working. The truck has a 4 inch exhaust system, I'm not sure how complete, an air intake system of some sort, and that knob with 5 different settings.

If your pyro probe is located PRE turbo then those EGT's are acceptable, however if your probe is located POST turbo I think you better not run it quite that hard. 1250 pre turbo is generally accepted as the max limit for safe EGT's.

Your trans temp should run somewheres between 75 and 100 degrees above ambient temps depending on how you are driving it. It takes the tranny awhile to warm up though, it wont do it on a short trip across town.
