Hey guys,

got a newb question about shifting into 4H/4L with the dash knob.

When switching to 4H/4L, do i have to stop to put it in neutral or just flip the switch on the dash?

if not, what speed can you switch it in to 4H?:dunno

Clint,

On an ESOF truck, has the switch on the dash and the vacuum/manual hubs, you can switch from 2 HI to 4 HI at any speeds up 55MPH, I believe, as long as all 4 tires are turning at the same speed (not spinning or locked up, etc....). To shift to 4 LO, you need to be at a complete stop, with the transmission in neutral. It will not shift into 4 LO if it is any gear but neutral, not even park. To shift back out, same thing, complete stop, and in neutral.

4h at any speed as long as all the wheel are moving at the same speed. 4L you can shift it the same BUT it wont do it until your around 10 to 30 mph. Mine shifts to low at 12mph my buddys is 26mph I have no clue why his works that way so....But to be on the safe side I would not shift to low until your stopped.

I think the book says you can shift on the fly to 4 hi under 50mph, 4 low you have to be in neutral with your foot on the brake to shift. I always try to go slow when im shifting to 4 wheel (under 30) and foot off the go pedal, Heck i dont think i've even had this truck in low range yet thats what my beater truck is for

I do know, that on my truck, when you turn the switch from 2HI to 4HI, durning the "instant" of the shift, the PCM will blip the throttle to help reduce the torque durning the shift. Startled me the first time mine did that.....

Hey clint? Work that switch about once a month. That will keep your seals working longer.

Hey C;int.

I say better safe than sorry with mine and if possible I try to only put it into 4WD when stopped. I just think slamming the front gear into action may cause excessive wear over a period of time so its better to ease into 4WD.

Thats my opinion.
