I am wondering if there are any pitfalls to doing this. Double check my parts list and see if this is correct.
7.3 6 speed tranny, flywheel, and clutch with shifter
clutch linkage and pedal
tranny wiring harness (will the auto work?)
manual pcm (will my auto pcm work?)
is the single piece driveshaft the same?
does the transfer case mount the same?

I figured if the cost comes close to a new torque converter, deep pan, filtration system, and trans temp gauge (if I do it I'm doing it right), I'm changing to a manual.

Thanks in advance,
Jesse

One thing you left off the list: new floor pan for the truck cab. The manual tranny is taller than an automatic. It won't fit without doing some sheetmetal work.

This subject has been tossed about before. The usual general popular opinion was that getting a rebuilt automatic from BTS was a much more cost effective way to go.

I thought the auto was higher?
Jesse

Nope, last time I was at BTS in Lead Hill, AR, I asked Brian aout the swap.

If you are not familar with Brian's Truck Shop, he is consider by many of us with 4R100 automatics, as the Grand Guru of Grunt. His rebuilt tranny's have held up to 3 times more HP as many of us will ever hope to put to the pavement. He has done the reverse swap, from manual to auto before and even has pics on his website. I asked about the auto to manual swap, and he is the one that told me it can't be done without remodeling the floor of the truck's cab.

As has been discussed here a bunch of times, the best way to convert from an auto to a manual in a ford pickup is to sell your truck and buy one with a manual. It would proabably be cheaper, too.

The 1989 through 2000 chevies were super easy to convert, but pretty much any model year Ford is not designed to be any other way than it left the factory.

Unless I can find someone willing to do the swap side by side...

Rotsa Ruck, Reorge... :)
Hoss is right. Most cost effective way to do it would be to buy a stick shift truck, and sell yours
