Stock Water Temp Gauge

Since I've had my truck my Stock Water Temp Guage barely reads between the C and the begining of the white strip. One time when it was 100 and I was pulling a load over the grape vine I got it to the "o" on Normal. About 15 degrees from 90.

I know I'm not running that cold....at least I don't think, but is this normal or is there a solution? If I'm running cold unless it is bad for the truck I will probably just leave it.

Its normal and there is a solution. The factory gauge is nothing more than an idiot light with a needle on it sooooooooooo, if you want real temps you need to install a real gauge with a real sending unit. OTOH, the 7.3L PSD cooling system is built very adequatley for the size of the engine. If your thermostat is functioning properly it wont (cant) run too cold. If you worry about things like this I suggest installing a gauge.

Put an aftermarket in, I did and its the only way to go, put er' on the A piller with pyro/boost.

Yeah, I mine dosnt move that much, but it does heat up alot faster now that I gutted the stock fan and threw in a 203 Tstat.


But One time (last week), I got mine to hit between the "L" and the line. backing up this hill..... she was a lil warm I think

I might invest in a water temp gauge soon,

When I converted my truck to veggie oil I installed a real coolant temp gauge. To my surprise (not really) the idiot stock gauge is totally inaccurate. I can be at 203*F (with my 203*F t-stat) and the gauge reads at N or O. I can also be at R and have only 190*F of heat.

Well nice to know it is not really reliable either. I don't think I will really worry about it. No more room on my Apillar guage so I will live with it. If I see it getting past the R then I no it is time to let her cool back down.
