I have a 2004 F350 with the 6.0. When I orginally bought the truck, it made no noise after turning off the engine. I had some EGR valve problems and took it back to be fixed. When I got it back the dealership made a change so that there is something running for about 30 seconds after turning off the engine. It sounds like an electric pump or motor running. My uncle told me the other day that his 6.0 did this too and it was the injectors still running and eventually it burned them up. The dealership says this was suppose to be happening all along since it rolled off the assembly line and it is just the fuel pump priming the system to make it start better. I have asked two different dealerships and got the same answer. Anyone know what this sound is and if it should be happening? I have searched this forum to see if anyone else has asked this and no one has mentioned it. I get asked all the time from other diesel owners what the sound is and they seem doubtful when I tell them the dealership answer.

There was a TSB that addressed a starting problem. This is the result. I don't remember the exact problem it addresses, but I think it was hard starting. Someone here will chime in about this.

If i remember correctly that sound is the injector solenoids activating. Had something to do with bleeding fuel down in the rail to eliminate overfueling at startup. It had something to do with the stink of unburnt diesel at startup. We have lots of trucks here that had this done and have ticked over 200k since without injector issues, so i am sure that there is nothing to worry about. Ford was on a big rampage here flashing all of these trucks when they were in the dealership. I will do some digging and find out for sure.

Research "inductive heating". AND find another LARGER dealership. The orginal reflash would cycle the spool valves (or whatever) to prevent the injectors from sticking. LAst I have read Ford is now two flash strategies past the type you describe.
