I have an auto trans. I cannot get the brake pedal to release the gearshifter so I can put it into gear. How can I disable it to get it to a shop for repairs

Check and see if your brake lights come on when you push the pedal. If not look to see if the fuse is blown. There is a thread on this happening but I dont remember where. I know the brake light switch energizes the lockout. Someone will have more detail I'm sure

What year is it? I have an 04 X with the TorqueShift. I had this happen to me a few times and I lifted up on the brake pedal with my foot and then stepped on the brake hard. This seemed to do the trick. Good luck
