Hey guys,

This is my first time posting something on the forums. I have been very lucky with my 02 SD until recently. Maybe someone here can help.

When shifting from Drive to Reverse (auto trans), the RPMs go down quite a bit and sometimes the motor just dies. This only happened in that interval when I switch from reverse. When the truck is on a leveled road, it only idles down. If the truck is at an incline, the motor will definitely die.

Last week I had to make an abrupt stop to avoid a collision and the motor died too. I took the truck to the dealer to be diagnosed. They could not find the problem.

I am running a Banks Trans Command. I plan in removing it this weekend to see if that makes a difference.

If anyone here has experienced the same or similar issue, please provide some feedback.

Thanks

Sounds like a good place to start. Kinda sounds like the tc staying locked...like letting out on the clutch with not enough rpms up to keep from killing the engine.

Now that you mention the trans fluid level, I remember the trans being serviced (replaced fluid) and shortly after that I started to notice the symptom. I will check that today. Thanks.....

yea, from the sounds of that...i can almost guarantee you that the fluid is low. when you refill the tranny...it takes a long time for the fluid to drain down in there giving the illusion that its full, when its really not.

Well, you were right. I checked the fluid and it was low. I added one quart last night and the problem seemed to have gone away.

Thanks for the help.....
