I got the ford gold and works like a champ....
but any of the Big Box stores like Best Buy or Circuit City...
that sell Viper, etc... install theirs with more features for less money....

I got mine as part of the purchase so they came out to the house and did it....
the installer that did mine had done hundreds of them he said and it took him 3 hours working fast as he could....

I would never consider spending that kind of time doing it myself knowing ONE wrong wire could cause a dead truck or PCM :)

but I'm "effecient" with my time (that's snob talk for Lazy :) )

you will never have a problem with it if it is installed properly.
I think proper installation is very important with all of them. I have a Ultra Start in my F350 and really like it. I bought it for like $50 off of ebay and installed it myself. It was the best remote start for a manual transmission that I could find at the time. Our Excursion has a Command start that was professionally installed for about $400 but it is junk. The biggest difference in the two is the range and the quality of installation. I have had a few problems with rubbed wires and bad connections on the Excursion. If you want something done right you need to do it yourself.

I've got one that's made by Directed Electronics (www.directed.com) that was installed when my truck was new. They've discontinued the model I have which is what I've found out when I was searching for a remote for it which I was able to find and it only cost me $20.

I'm quite pleased with how it works and it gave me remote locks too :) Mine trips ignition on to allow for GP's to heat up for 30sec then kicks off and back on allows 10sec for further gp heat and then kicks the starter on.
