Have a couple questions, firtst time to the site so hopefully I can get some help here.
1. What woudl be involved to change gears from a 4.10 to 3.73? cost in parts?

2. What would be needed to be done to go from a DRW to a SRW?

THe reason i ask is because I have the opportunity to get a 2001 F350 DRW for a good price. But dont really need the DRW, and I also dont really need the 4.10 gears wont be towing much more than around town.

A new gear set runs about $200.00 per axle, plus a master bearing kit for about $180.00 also per axle. Labor is about $300-400 per axle.

Buy the truck you want. IMHO, anyway.

The rear axle hubs are DRW, which means the swap to SRW is not totally straightforward. Then, you have to get rid of the big wheel wells, and the paint on the bed will be all messed up by where the wells attached.

You''l drop a grand per axle to re-gear.

By the time you get done messing with all this, I think you'll be money ahead to just go find a good deal on a SRW somewhere and get what you want without the hassle.

Thanks dlonno, really appreciate the information.
oh yeah for got to mention that it is a 4x4. I would just need the parts, I can get the labor done basicaly for free. So your suggesting around $400 in gears and about $360 in master bearing kit! There arent any other parts needed for this project of changing the gears? Sounds pretty reasonable, Ive been searching the site and was seeing figures like $1500-1700.

HOSS 350 sorry you must have posted right before i posted. The truck actually doesnt have a bed on it. So you think i would be better off just leaving the DRW or trying to find something else?

Thats all there is. Ring, pinion, bearings and oil. Take off the diff cover, drain the oil and change the gears. A shop should charge no more than $400 per axle. I'd say do it yourself but lining up the ring and pinion perfectly can be difficult without proper tools.
