hey im a new owner of a 2008 ford super duty 450 and it has the heavy duty 4.88 rear end and im looking for some advice on if i should swap it out being that i do alot of highway driving dont really know what to do
Well......You could just have someone change the ring and pinion. I would go maybe a 4.10 a 3.73 maybe to much if you have to pull a heavy load. I have a 4.10 in my 08 250 and get around 20 MPG if I keep it around 60 MPH. If I run 70 it drops to 17 to 18 MPG. I would save the old one to change it back later when you sell it. You will need to have the dealer reset the trans. shift points for the new gear.
I have a 3.73 in my 05 and pull a 40ft. 5th wheel camper that weighs #13000, no problems, I get around 12 with it behind me. I had the 4.10 in a 02 and only got 14 loaded or not. Had to put a rear axle seal in today but had nothing to do with the weights I pull
Thanks for the welcome, I am a die hard ford man bought my first ford at 16 and my first new ford in 1985 started with the super dutys in 99 with disappointment but had better luck in 02, now on a 05 with no disappointments
I have been hearing a noise towards the rear of my truck (2011 Ford F-250) that kinda sounds like there is pressure releasing. It makes a loud noise and I have had Ford look at it and they seem to think it is a pre-caliber release. The noise is heard when you place the truck in gear and ease off the break..Does anyone have this problem? Can anyone explain what the pre-caliber release is? Ford said this is normal, but as much as I paid for the truck this better not be normal...
I think they might mean the Parking Brake cable. I have never heard a pressure release when going form Park to driving. Keep an eye on it and take it back in if it gets worse. A second dealer might be in order if there is one near by.
The noise sounds more like a rubbing/grinding noise..This usually occurs when the truck is in gear and I am easing off the brake... I will definitely take this to another dealer and have them take a look...A second opinion is always a must, especially when I have paid so much for this one...Anyone have any suggestions or have the same problems??
