I was just in Colorado on vacation and experienced some interesting transmission shifting while going up and down the mountains. I'm interested in hearing if this is normal shifting and my tranny isn't doing it normally or if there is another explanation.

The first abnormal shifting was while climbing a hill my transmission shifted normally from 3rd to 4th gear while accelarating, as the grade got steeper and I lost speed the tranny down shifted but didn't drop into 3rd, does 4th gear have a non-lockup that I have never experienced on flat ground before?

The second abnormal shifting was while going down hill. The tranny was in 4th gear and gaining speed, so I pushed the OD off button, the tranny dropped into 3rd gear. As the grade got steeper and was gaining speed again the tranny seemed to drop into a lower gear (the rpm's increased), but it didn't drop into 2nd gear. What would this be, it seemed like their was a gear between 2nd and 3rd?

Has anybody experienced this? Any help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

personally, I would have had the OD switch in the "OFF" position, but it sounds to me like the torque convertor clutch locking & unlocking... very hard on it...

had the transmission fluid flushed lately?

edited for spelling... time to get another cup of coffee and head for the river... I hear my Master Angler Award calling...
