I know your suppose to install it in the drivers side exhuast manifod but I dont like the fact of taking off the manifold doing all the work and or having an exhuast leak.. Why wouldnt you be able to just tie it into the turbo down tube or at least between the manifold and the turbo for easier access, on my superduty I can get a drill and drill and tap a hole from under the truck right in the pipe before the turbo with out removing anything, I could also loosen the exhaust and use a vaccum to get the shavings out.. Would that make that much of a difference being a few inches away?

You dont have to take the manifold off, just drill it while its on the truck. Pre-turbo is way more accurate than post-turbo.

AH I was thinking that it would have to be removed, I installed one on an 05 f350 and I had to remove the manifold

just drill the manifold.apply grease to the drilling area, bit and tap.you can also have a buddy hold the vacuum hose next to where youre drilling/tapping to suck up the metal.cast iron doesent leave shavings or chips.it leaves a powdery substance.you could also let the truck idle while drilling to blow the stuff out the hole while drilling but make sure you are wearing safety glasses or gogles!!!!!!.i drilled the manifold on my 94 this way.i did the 95 while the engine was out and the manifold was off.i had the fitting welded to the 95s manifold though

I vacuumed out the hole and used my magnetic pick up tool to get the junk out. I let the rest (if any) blow out on its own.

ditto :hail

that cast iron and sharp set of bits.... cuts like a hot knife in butter.
no need to take off the manifold, unless you break the bit off up inside  i have done three a 92, 02 and an 06 zero issue other than hot cast iron finding its way under my shirt sleeve
slow and steady is best

Jerry from GOS Racing said not to use grease on the bit. The bit heats up as you drill and the grease will soften. Once you break through the hole, any grease with shavings gets slung around on the inside and sticks. You wont be able to vacuum it out. If you leave it dry you can use the vacuum and suck it all out.

Not a bad tip Tx, definetly worth a ponder, I didnt grease my bit when I punched the hole. But I would still grease the tap when you get to the tapping portion of the job. Little or no heat in tapping and lotsa shavings.

what kinda boost you getting from the kitchen counter, egts staying low :D

a side note of De Tapping evolution, Go slow tap about 1/2 turn then back out clear the shavings then proceed, keep doing this, as to prevent tappage breakage in manifoldage, which causes cursing and hammer throwing..:D

EGTs in kitchen run about 98.6 but draw complaints from the girls. I just blame the dog. :D
