Hello All,

I am new to the diesel truck market, I am looking to purchase an F250 4X4 diesel in the near future, most of the trucks (1999-2002)in my price range ($15000 to $18000)have around 90000 to 190000 miles on them, what is the life expectancy out of the Powerstrokes?, I dont want to buy something and then sink $6000 into a new engine, any help is appreciated.

7.3 has been know to run well over 300k
the tranny has some issues if the engine is powerred up and driven like a hot rod,
if you find a good one, get an oasis report pulled by teh dealer if its a ford dealer, if not copy the vin and go see a ford place and get it run it wil give you a baseline of maintenance done under warranty or any paid repairs. its not all inclusive but it is a great tool.
99-02 lots of drivetrain tweaks and ecm programing, the 02 or early 03 7.3 had a good power increase, however they(lots of 01's to ) had powedered metallic rods which some believve if you go over 350-400 hp they become a conern. me to.

over all its a very good engine, pretty easy to work on and service,
if it hasnet been chipped or tuned , chance are its a steal and will go on for some time,.
we al llike to add exhaust and increase hp etc. however if i found one used with all that done, i would certainly question its integrity and service records
just to be sure its a sound truck
good hunting
