Two weeks ago I hade the p/s pump replaced, rear pinion and remote start repaired. All was under the ext. warr. program. I read the write up after the NINE day visit at the dealer and it said remanufactured p/s pump installed. I said "Hot Dang I'm screwed". I had the alternator replaced in march and they gave me a reman. that crapped out in july while I was on vacation 300 miles from home.

Not even two weeks go by and I'm makeing a u-turn and the p/s pump dies. I now have no steering and no brakes. I keeped rolling into the traffic that was origionaly behind me,one of which was a Peterbuilt pulling a excavator. Thank god he stopped after locking up!

I called thedealer screaming my head off. He said have it towed here and we will have a car waiting. I can't blame anyone but Ford for this crap. They keep putting reman's in and it ends up costing them more money.

I get the truck back and now it is hard to turn while stopped with the brake depressed and hisses on turns. I have to let off the brake in order to turn. It looks like it will be there for another visit.

This truck is always in for stupid things and with 44 K on the clock it amazes me at all the repairs. Does anyone else go through this? :cussing: :(

The "hard to steer while stopped" problem is VERY common even on trucks without reman pumps.

Its because the powersteering pump also powers the brakes. Ford decided brakes take priority over steering, and as such, you cant turn the wheel and ride the brake.

Ford's response is this is normal, and you shouldnt be trying to crank the wheel on such a heavy vehicle while NOT MOVING.

My response was, how do you expect to back a trailer around at low speed if you cant crank the wheel?

My father's 96, you could spin the wheel with one FINGER while stopped and foot on the brake. It was NICE compared to my truck.

Cant really offer any assistance, but dont feel too bad, the rest of us suffer from it too.

:(

Mine will never turn when stopped let alone on the brakes. It's due to the design of the front axle. When you turn the front tires, they have to roll slightly because of the scrub radius. Try this: turn your wheels all the way to one side, mark the area of the tire where it makes contact with the ground, now turn the tires back the other way and look at where your mark is. Your tires need to roll, thats why you cant be on the brakes very hard. Mine has always hissed during turns and even while im braking, I just learned to live with it.

Not that I'm trying to sound like anyones dad here, but turning your front tires while stopped is extremely hard on your axle, steering components and even your frame. Oh crap! Now I sound like my dad!

I never had a problem before. It would turn with one finger. This is B/S that with these pumps not putting out enough to turn and stop at the same time. I'm really ticked with it now.
