this is what i have,, 96 f-250 4x4 7.3l,, started a bit slower this a.m. @ 20* here is whats happening ,if i rev above 15-16 rpm engine bogs down big loss of power is sounds like its binding and burning smell..its still drives and goes though the gears ?? any idea????????? thanks dante59 ,,rich..:dunno

hi John,, thanks for the return,,, im sorry to say i don't have gauges at this time ..i was apprehensive to try and run the engine again...but it's at home...i went out now and turned the ignition on and my "wait to start" light did not come on....then i turned off the engine and waited, then turned it back on and the "wait to start" light came on....when it went out i started the engine and ran it up to max of 2K with no bogging of the engine in that short time, so i'm really puzzled...perhaps an electrical problem???

but first thing this morning it was hard to start and smoked like crazy and it was grey smoke....also the "wait to start" light did not come on until after it was already running...that's when i took it out for a drive and discovered the bogging problem.

the bad part is that i don't have a diesel mechanic in the area and i hate to take it to the stealership :dunno :( thanks for your info John! Dante59

Dante,

Take a look at this thread and see if resembles your issue: thread

It definitely sounds like an electrical issue. If your UVC has melted/burned, it may be making periodic connectivity, which would explain why the problem isn't consistent.:dunno

hi john,, thanks, I'll ck that out, the uvc is less than a year old but that may not make a difference, i did smell something like burnt electrical odor last week but it was brief and didn't seem to have any effect on engine performance. i plugged in the block heater this morning and i'll wait a few hours before i try to start it....thanks for your input and the thread. hey John, i forgot to tell you about the knocking sound it made when it would start shuting down.. ?? thanks dante59....

That could be any number of things....can you tell where the sound is coming from? Is it consistent? Can you only hear it when shutting down?

Could this just be the EBPV, doing it's anoying thing.(normal operation)?Does it clear up after it's warm? Rick

Took the words right out of my mouth. :sweet Since you say that it was bogging at 20*F but not once the ambient temp rose I say EBPV. It's a two sided coin. It's function is to warm the engine faster but the annoying groan and power loss are aggravating. Have you read my thread ?

THANKS EVERYBODY!!!!!!! so i found out that my FUEL heater was shorting out ,cut the broken wire and put in new filter disabled the plug. LOADS of k-rap in the canister so cleaned that out and remembered i had put some kleen in the tank 3 days before maybe just maybe i was starving this baby ,,so far this has worked now its a wait and see.. hope for the best.. once again i appreciate your help and its nice to be with y'all ,,,dante59 rich.
