power inverter problems

this is what i have, i have 2 red and black,2ga wire from my battery to the cab and a 8ga ground to the cab body, checked resistance and all is goo, when inverter is off the main 2ga wires read 14v but when i turn on the inverter it goes down to 9.123v what could this be.:dunno

just turning the inverter switch on? or turning it on and connecting something???

Your inverter is under some sort of load if you show 9.1 volts input. Find out what is turned on with the power. It may not be the inverter under load, but your stereo or AC going on with the key on.

I see you have two red wires rather than a red and a black, are you sure you have them hooked up with the proper polarity? Easy to get them crossed when they are the same color.

yea i checked, they are conected correctly:) , and its does that with no load on it, i havent hook up anything to it:confused:

now heres another thing that has occured off and on but i havent seen a change in amps with or with ac and stereo, but my battery light comes on and goes off occationally:dunno ,

i check and no codes or anything. whats that about, any ideas, when the light comes on i have checked my alt out put and its doing its thing fine and the batterys are good, im lost on this and i havent found any ground out wires or shorts????

Is this a new inverter? Could be something wrong with it if you purchased it used. Could be a bad new one as far as that goes too.

Pull the fuse on the inverter and then check the voltage going into the inverter. Is it as low as before?

Pull the inverter out and hook it up direct to battery terminals on another vehicle (w/ jumper cables). If the same thing happens you have a inverter problem. If it's fine you have a inverter wiring or truck problem.

its a new inverter, i pulled the fuse and rechecked the power and it was fine, then reinstalled the fuse and now everything works fine, thanks all.
