I am getting ready to take a trip to WVa. for an ASP service project for our church.
So to just check things out, I hooked up my laptop and AE program and I got this code:
P0239 something about the Turbo.
My question to everyone is, How catastrophic is this code? The truck runs fine as far as I can tell.

Would this code tell the more conservitive to keep it at home? and rent a truck?

ooopps... sorry, my bad, the error code is P0236 not P0239.

Thanks!

It might be your MAP sensor. If it's toast, I would think it would change your performance -- the computer doesn't know how much air is getting in, and doesn't add the right amount of fuel (usually not enough).

236 isnt very discriptive...'specially when you consider
237/238 woudl give you MORE info to go on...

P0236 Turbo Boost Sensor A Circuit
P0237 Turbo Boost Sensor A Circuit Low Input
P0238 Turbo Boost Sensor A Circuit High Input

does your DP Tuner alter the boost ? could be coming from that.
check the wiring on your MAP sensor

The DP-Tuner doesn't alter the boost, I don't think. Its a mild burn and its been changed to a 40 hp econo tune, (I'll have to change that soon).

I just changed out the red boot that goes from the input to the turbo to the tymar intake with a black one I got online and was wondering about how to determine if the turbo was going bad.

Does anyone know what kind of play should the turbo shaft have? Its got VERY little left to right/up & down when I grab the shaft and wiggle it. Its not touching the turbo housing at all.
How about the in and out movement? If I grab the shaft and push and pull on it, how should it move?

Thanks!!!

there should be virtually NO play in the turbine shaft....and turning the
turbine (by the shaft) should be SMOOTH as silk...if its rough (like sand)
then the bearings could be worn.

OK, then I think I got problems:eek: When I turn the turbo by hand it is as smooth as can be.
But when I pull and push on the shaft it moves in and out a little bit, mabe by the thickness of the blade of a regular kitchen knife. (the unsharp kind)...
and when I wiggle it left and right it moves maybe the thickness of a piece of paper, just enough to feel it.

Does that explain it any more? Hope I haven't over did it..

Thanks!

You should have very minimal end play but if you do have end play it is from worn thrust bearings which in our turbos is nothing more than a brass washer. You realy shouldnt be setting any codes with the beginnings of excessive end play, I think your P0236 code is not related to this at all, and honestly I wouldnt fret over the 0236 code but I would do something about the end play. A rebuild kit for our turbos is under $100.00 and can be done in a day.

I've had that code occasionally back when I was running my old Evolution programmer and DI chip, never figured out what it was. DP Tuner chip hasn't set it.

As for the end play....Garrett specs are .002 -.003 thrust clearance measured from the exhaust side of the shaft with a dial indicator.

Thanks all

I have had time tonight to really check things out, and found that the bottom of the hose that connects that connects to the turbo and goes to the map sensor was cracked under the clamp.
I just cut an inch off and am back in business.

Thanks for all your replies, makes me feel better about my truck, although I have another problem & will start another post about it.

Thanks again!!!
