I plug my truck in all winter. The temps here tonite are at 3 deg but our average lows are in the teens thu low 20's. My theory is its less stress on the motor keeping the engine warm . Am I going to wear out the heater ? Is this not necessary and a waste of electric? Let me know what you think I did the same thing on my old Ford .

Yeah, you will use excessive electricity though. A few hours before you start is often enough to help. Someone will be by shortly to post links to their timer setup for their block heater.

there is no 'lilnk' to a timer set up. just go to the store (wallyworld) and buy an outdoor heavy duty multiple time per day timer. i think i spent less than $10 and it works awesome.

Make sure you find a timer that has a grounding prong in the plug. That way everything will be grounded properly. Some timers are just for double insulated plugs.
