This is a plea for all of you to please make sure you buckle up your kids, (and yourselves too).

Responded to a 1 vehicle roll-over yesterday. Lady was driving down a country road here, apparently fell asleep, hit the borrow pit, overcorrected, went through a gate and rolled 2 times.

Two of her kids were ejected, a 6 year old and a 1 year old. No one was in a belt (or even a car seat).

The 6 year old was code black at the scene. 1 year old has a brain injury. Mom was not ejected and is fine.

There was even a car seat in the back (storage area) of the vehicle with the groceries. Man oh Man, I'm getting tired of seeing people with kids bebopping around and not buckled up.

She gets to live with her decision, and that just sucks for anyone. Please don't let it happen to you.

Stay safe out there.

What is code black? Doesn't sound good. Quite a decision that that mother gets to deal with.
I keep my kids bolted in, even got me out of a speeding ticket once. The cop said "I see you have your son in a proper seated and you are all belted in, I appreciate that so I am going to let you go with a warning." Perhaps he had recently been to a scene similar to the one you describe.

There was a commercial on TV awhile back with 4 kids in a car, three belted one not that gets into a nasty accident and they slow-mo the unbelted person flying around the interior. Not pretty, makes you wear your seatbelt.

That is awful. Same thing with smoke and carbon monoxide detectors. I've responded to a few calls myself when I was a younger man, and have seen the results first hand of not having a battery in one. Or another classic: got a nice big house with a nice kitchen, but no fire extinguisher. Seat belts are pretty basic, kids not in car seats is unacceptable. I feel for you having to see and deal with that, I know things from 25 years ago still haunt me. :(

Seen it far too many times myself. It really gets me when the parents ARE belted, but the kids are not. :rant

Our vehicles dont move until everyone is strapped in. It only takes a couple of seconds to do. Those few seconds could save so many lives. It has saved mine a few times.

Too many lives are carelessly lost each year.

There's an old saying "You can't fix stupid" (I think that came from comedian Ron White). In this case I think "stupid got fixed", because if she's ever able to drive again, I'm sure she will think of her kids (especially the 6 year old) and buckle up every time. The auto manufacturers should put a lock on the ignition that keeps the car from starting until at least the driver is buckled up.

It was Ron White

I think that on the seat belt subject that it is a perosn's choice of wearing it or not. I wear mine all the time and would love for everybody else to wear it, but when auto companies have to put restrictions on vehicles because of seat belts something is wrong.

Perhaps on your thought of not being able to start the vehicle, there can be pressure point sensors in the seat that if activated the vehicle's speed is governed to 25 mph if a seat belt is not buckled. I will at times get in a truck and move it around and would hate to put the seatbelt on every time.
