there is a star wheel adjuster for the actual shoes... and are the cables adjusted correctly?

PS... the park brake shoes are notorious for the friction coming off the backing, so make sure you don't have chunks floating around in the top-hat part of the rotor..

How do you tell if the parking brake cables are adjusted correctly? How do you adjust them?

I assume the star wheel adjuster is in the drum brakes. Can you please verify? Is there any adjustment to be made at the parking brake pedal?

Pictures of Parking Brake Adjustment

I am posting some pictures of this job:

Picture 1) Shows the rubber plug that covers the hole. This must be removed to rotate the adjuster star wheel that tightens the parking brake. The rubber plug should be replaced when done to keep water and road grit out.

Picture 2) Shows the star wheel through the hole.

Picture 3) Shows a tool that is designed to adjust the parking brake, but a screw driver will do. The brake can be adjusted while the tires are on the ground.

If you could reach your thumb through the hole, you can't, you would rotate the side of the star wheel you can see in picture 2 down toward the ground to tighten the brake.

yep the little drum inside the rear disc assembly has a small adjuster, inside the hat.
you can cause it to adjust on its on by rolling backwrds slowly while pressing the park brake pedal down. if it doesnt owrk then you have to resort to the manual screwdriver and star whell

that tool would be called a "brake spoon"

just learned to use one on my trailer brakes about a month ago.

it did work better than a screwdriver because of the bent part makes the spoon easier to move up and down.

careful not to OVER tighten 'em !
the adjusters have an automatic feature on 'em too....
run the car/truck in reverse and hit brakes HARD (do this
SEVERAL times & it should tighten up the ebrake/shoes.
