Well after trying to sell my truck I decided I couldn't part with it so I'm driving cross country with it pulling my other car to my final duty station. I pulled into a parking lot tonight (20 mins ago) in KS 12:15AM and let it idle while I checked in. I went and parked it after about 10 mins of idleing in a place I could turn around. Well anyway to the story about 10 minutes later I found a better safer spot to park so I went to start it and no start.
It cranks over once but then it just makes a grinding sound and will maybe turn over one more time but that is all then it just makes a grinding sound. More like a grunt and it can't do it.
I tried it with the lights on and besides the normal dimming they stayed strong so it is not the batteries which are both 6 months old and all connections tight.
So I'm guessing selenoid/starter. I'm hoping it it over heated and once it cools down in the morning it will start.
Anyone have any other ideas?????? I may have to tighten up the connection on the selenoid.
What would cause this is the other question? I've had the A/C (never used much in the past if ever really) and noticed it dripps all over the area where the starter is hmmmmm.
Well anyway, any input welcome and I'll update tomorrow if I get started or not. It is extremely late now so I'm going to hit the sac. If all fails there is a cummings/detroit shop on the other side of the interstate...I can see the sign from my room.
