Howdy all,
Well I got the oil cooler out of the truck without too much of a problem. However, now my problem is how do I get the end caps off? I have a breakdown of all of the individual parts of the cooler but there is no description in my Haynes diesel manual for "tear down and rebuild" of this part. Are there snap rings or could the ends be pressed on? I don't really want to go banging on it only to break it and then have to buy a brand new one.
Thanks, for your help.
Craig

I am also taking pictures of this process and writing down steps, hopefully it will make a good WIKI post.

Update: There is no breakdown of this cooler, and I found out the ends were pressed on. I got them off using a block of wood and a hammer. Do I use the same technique for getting them back on?
Thanks,
Craig

Looks like someone has already been in that cooler ......those RTV "worms" :confused: Only the "O" rings are needed to seal ...no RTV silicone

Have you also removed the front header section where it attaches to the timing cover....two bolts ....if not done and you try and "pry" the cooler bundle back in place, it can crack the neck on the timing cover resulting in engine removal!:eek: :doh:

pic.... {don't ask how I know :thumbs }

Hey Geonc,
Thanks for the heads up, I will be careful. It came out without too much hassle, God willing it will go back in the same way. I don't know where the RTV worms came from but it makes me glad that I am also installing a coolant filter while I have everything drained.
Take Care,
Craig
