I have a 1999 F-350 7.3 Power Stoke Diesel, if the weather is below 32 degrees, it will not start. I checked the power to the relay with a volt meter, I do not have the 12 volts there, my "wait to start" light comes on for about 10 sec. or so, depending on the weather. I check my relay with a portable 12 volt power supply, and it pulls in O.K. Is there a fuse or another relay in the circuit that may be keeping my 12 volts from getting from my ignition switch to the relay coil, so it can pull in? I also have my 12 volts from the battery to large terminals of the relay, I am not getting the 12 volts from the ignition switch. Thanks for any help on this problem.

I had the same problem, when it got 32 or lower it would not even turn over. Took it to my local mechanic and he checked the glow plugs and they were fine. He then went back to the relay for the glow plugs and had a low voltage reading, it was just barley above 34 at the time. He got a new one from Ford (about $100.00) and changed it, there are cheaper ones out there I know but it's OEM. I haven't had a problem since. It started fine the other morning when it was 22 outside. Maybe this will help. Total cost for this was 140.00 from him including parts. :dunno

Go to your local auto parts store, and get a ford starter Relay, it is the same thing as the Glow plug relay and it's about a quarter of the cost ( i think mine was about 10-20 bucks)

Mine has been starting fine, except that last night I started to go home from my mom's house and sure enough 24 degrees outside and NOTHING. Tried plugging it in for 1 1/2 hours and nothing. Took hair dryer to the relays and still nothing. Finally took it inside and put it up to the key slot and under the steering column and it started like it had never missed a beat. Only wonder if since my OD light on the shifter knob doesn't work if there may be something causing the thing not to contact when that cold (freezing temp). Or maybe just need to change the ignition switch and have it re-keyed to my orginal key.
