I just read this article http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,201897,00.html that Nissan has approved the talks with GM. What I can't understand is that Renault owns 44% of Nissan and Nissan owns 15% of Renault. How can each company own part of each other? Seems like that's a 29% net investment for Renault. :dunno

i think its different divisions of each other like ford and cummins and isuzu and chevy

nissan, gm and renault they said would be global partners, which means still competitors, so we wont see a big nissan pickup looking like a chevy.....
even though we see honda pickups looking like an avalance :D

probaly lots of R&D sharing
much like volvo and ford even though ford owns volvo its not a two way street of all ideas, still separate entities so to speak.
but hey i could be wrong, :D

That's probably true. I saw another article today on "The Detroit News" website that said that Kerkorian publicized the letter to really stir things up. Seems as though he and his group have been working behind the scenes to set this up. Then on June 20th the GM president was supposed to call someone at Nissan. Since he didn't do it on the 20th, "Kerk" got pissed off and published his letter later. I'd had to get on his bad side, seems like he wants action, and wants it now. The article also said that the Nissan/Renault CEO, Goshn, already his sights set on an idle GM plant to build Nissan trucks. It might be a good thing for GM to do. Since Kerkorian has already caused Chrysler to be sold to Daimler, now stirring the pot with GM, he'll probably want to go after Ford when he gets through with this.
